Karma System

This campaign will feature an experimental alignment system known as the “Karma System”. The alignments for 3.5e are normally as follows:

CG NG LG
CN TN LN
CE NE LE

One quickly realizes that there are two axis:

Lawful – Neutral – Chaotic
Good – Neutral – Evil

For the Karma System, you will be rewarded points for Lawful, Chaotic, Good, and Evil actions accordingly. The stronger and more strictly aligned the action, the more points you will get. Performing actions involving alignment-specific magic or effects will give a lot of points (for example, casting Protection from Evil is a Good spell and will earn more points than saving an orphan; this is because of the magical nature of the karma). Neutral actions will not earn karma. If you perform an action with two alignments (ex. Lawful Evil), then you will get both points (Lawful points and Evil points). In order to earn Neutral Karma, you must perform an entire game session without earning any Karma points (very difficult, but you will earn a lot of points).

Earning a lot of karma will not change your alignment. However, you have the option to change your alignment once you’ve accumulated a certain amount of Karma. Karma can be spent on abilities or bonuses somewhat like money. Once spent, the Karma points are lost. The forms of Karma are below:

Good Karma
==
  • 100 : Change your 2nd Alignment from Evil to Neutral
  • 100 : Change your 2nd Alignment from Neutral to Good
  • 300 : Learn and gain the use of one spell of the Good subtype, regardless of alignment restrictions (must be a spellcaster, and you may only gain spells of your class)

Karma Fissures

A rare occurance; Karma fissures occur when a person performs a feat so profoundly karmic that it produces a rift in the material plane to the plane that best reflects their karmic action.

In order to produce a fissure, a character must perform some action that produces more than 3000 points of karma at once (not an easy task). “At Once”, for the purposes of this, means within a period of 1 round. The places that each fissure opens up at are as follows:

3000 G Karma –
3000 E Karma –
3000 L Karma –
3000 C Karma –
3000 G, 3000 L Karma –
3000 G, 3000 C Karma –
3000 E, 3000 L Karma –
3000 E, 3000 C Karma -
